An update – I guess
I actually started a long-ass post about why I don’t update this blog anymore – but decided against it in the end. It would put me in the same category as other people that I’d rather not share a category with.
Anyway.
In 2004 thing started going down-hill George-wise. Interview went to hell because of a certain c*cksucking bastard motherf*cker who managed the man. I was a Scandinavian 22-yr-old and he treated me like I was bloody Saddam Hussain. That kinda behaviour is always charming, especially from a 50-something. Guess I hurt his ego by talking to George myself and George actually making up his mind about something without consulting Andy first. I’m such a shit, really, for coming there and making George feel mildly enthusiastic about doing a short interview. My bad. Sincere apologies.
Shortly after, George apologised for his manager’s piggish behaviour, and I appreciated that a lot. It was very noble and polite, and he was very uncomfortable doing it. Unfortunately, the magic was gone at no fault of his. Sure, I was involved in doing this blog and all that, but that extra bit of enthusiasm never really returned. That was OK by me, tho. When the concerts were announced, it came back for a while, and I saw about a dozen concerts all in all. It was fun, but it was the end.
Or so I thought. When the US shows were announced, I was contacted by a US magazine to do an article about him. I accepted, and contacted his US representatives and asked for a quote. Meanwhile I wrote about his career, about seeing him live, about him as a real person… cos that’s what they wanted.
I was thoroughly examined by his PR woman, she said he wanted to know who was doing it, he wanted magazines to read and so on. We provided all they requested, and finally the quote came ticking in, plus a promise of exclusive use of a front cover plus exclusive Eli Stone pictures – at no cost. The Eli Stone thing was cancelled at the 13th hour but everything else pulled through and we could pick and choose images. The magazine came out the same week that we were supposed to have done our interview, some years earlier.
To me, that was full circle.
There’s no drama about it anymore. Trust me, I’m over it. I’ve been over it for a long time. So over it, in fact, that I can’t sum up the enthusiasm to keep blogging about something that was a big part of my life for about ten years. At the moment, I’d be enthusiastic if he ever released anything. (Speaking of which, where’s that bleedin’ live DVD!?) Preferably a new CD or at least some material on his webside that we’ve heard about since 2003, but not really seen much of. Well, except December Song, which was greatly appreciated.
He’ll always be great. He’s one of the most talented musicians alive. The little I got to “know” him, I think he’s quite a guy. Not because he’s George Michael, because he’s talented and all that – but because he’s a decent guy underneath that somewhat arrogant exterior. I never experience his arrogance, I just experienced his sense of humour and willingness to reach out.
It’s nothing personal, I still think he’s great – I’ve just moved on.

You are both adorable. I think he should give you some insight interviews to use in his autobiography. Because it is good to have someone seeing something from a different perspective. Btw where is this bloody book?
… but that extra bit of enthusiasm never really returned
I think his music is telling more about Georgios Kyriakos Panayiotou than this George Michael could ever tell in books or interviews.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yIpOxIyH0S8&feature=channel_page , and more
Don’t know why I checked this blog today because I haven’t checked in ages, but I’m glad to see your own writing is edgy as ever and that you sound well!
I believe we will hear him again sometime, somewhere, probably sooner rather than later. Glad to know you are still bouncing around!
I’m sure I’m not alone in saying that I miss reading your blog/diaries etc. You have a great talent when writing that makes the reader really “feel” the story line. How about posting links to some of your other stuff?
Hope all is well with ya! Take Care
Just because you don’t want to write about George Michael anymore doesn’t mean this blog has to come to an end. it can morph into something else. like writing about your life, which i am sure is very interesting, your thoughts and opinions about current events and pop culture. really, there is a multitude of angles you go from here. I am experiencing something similar with my blog. Not that I’ve lost interest in GM, but he’s not in the news anymore now that everything has winded down (at least for a while). My blog has morphed into other things, much to my pleasant surprise. i still write about GM from time to time (surprisingly, there’s still reprints of interviews I can post), but I suspect that to minimize dramatically this summer (unless, of course, he gets arrested again … which is quite possible.)
Anyway, my point is, we’d love to still read posts by you, whatever they may be about.
See, I tried that, but every time I posted something else I get someone saying “Why don’t you write about George anymore, I don’t wanna read about (whatever the post was about)”. I dunno, maybe.
Who the fuck is saying “I don’t wanna read about XXX”?! Screw that idiot. Just do what you want and if someone has a problem with it, they can go somewhere else. You’d be surprised how many new visitors you’ll get when you go in a different direction. I don’t write much about GM anymore and I’ve managed to maintain my viewership and possibly have new regulars to boot.
Oh there’s been several. Some I haven’t even “let through” the filter cos they annoyed me. My blog, my rules, etc. You’re right. I might do that.
