Reached No 1 – Posthumous

Imagine for a moment that you’ve been an artist half your life. You’ve sold something in the region of one million records in a country that consists of 4.5 million people.

Your voice is perfection; perfectly executed vibrato, flawless intonation and a vocal control that is almost inhuman. Even when toned down.

Yet, you’ve never had a number one album. You’ve been on #2 and #3 and been the best-selling artist of the year on many occasions – and yet you’ve never reached #1. Naturally, after 15 years, you want it.

So you make the best album of your career – only, the day you put the finishing touches to your masterpiece, your heart stops to sing.

This is what happened with Jan Werner – the Norwegian singer that died nearly two months ago. During the recording of “Stronger” – released after his death – he said: “This has to reach number one.”

- It was his biggest dream, what he’s worked so hard for this year. And now his dreams came true, said Febe Rognstad, Werner’s manager and close friend. His album pre-sold 65,000 copies before its release date.

He got his wish in the end. His voice lives on. Get your copy here.

  1. It is still very tragic.
As I told you, I love the album, it is so beautiful, and yet it makes me cry and feel so sad.

  2. Somehow, he must know about the album going to number 1. I believe those kinds of things happen!

  3. I sure hope so. I sure hope so. Makes me hope there is an after-life and that once and again those that leave us can follow what happens down here.

    Scary: His last song goes;

“I am that warm voice in the cold wind, that whispers and if you listen, you’ll hear me call across the sky. As long as I still can reach out, and touch you – then I will never die. Remember, I’ll never leave you if you will only remember me”

  4. This is exactly the one song, I can hardly bear to listen to. But several of the other songs, sends the same message. Really makes me wonder if he somehow knew, his time on earth was that short.

  5. There are some songs from his back catalogue that have made me wonder about the same thing. To mention two:

    7th Clown In Heaven:
“Rise and shine my eternal day, don’t you cry on my grave when they row me to the other side. I’ll burn my bridges and leave my home, at the end of the winding road, when the seventh clown in heaven smiles.”

    Air:
“It’s the other side of light – I know. Before He takes me through the darkest hour of all, it’s the end.”

  7. Long time since someone has been writing here i see. I found this site and since i was and still (and forever) is such a big admierer of Jan Werner. Not just his wonderfull songs and one off the worlds great voices, but also his personality, his carisma and his kind apperance. I am so sad that i never got to see him live on stage, but he will always be in my heart :) i play his songs almost every day, but i am not getting tired off them, they grow stronger for each time.
i am proud to be a fan of him, and i have so manyt times stood up and defended him when others had the nerve to critisice the way he looked, so feminine and so one. He was one of a kind, no more no less.
You shall be remembered, and you will never leave us, hearing you in the wind………… …………..and hope you have found peace, like you are giving me. Rest in peace

    deepest regards Anne

  9. I am definitely a fan of this man and his most miraculous voice having discovered his songs, his voice only 6 hours ago when searching for some real music. I ended up watching the youtube performances of Norway’s got Talent(?) unsure if that is the correct name but I watched the winner Erland Bratland, read the comments re him being similar to someone named Jan Werner, went “huh? who is that???” and proceeded on my search. WOW is all I can say…and omg I am sooo saddened by our loss of an astonishing miraculous talent..taken from us much too soon. We lost someone the world needed. Rest in peace Jan and know you are loved. Steph from BC Canada
